Casino Design Photo of the Week: Encore Las Vegas

Posted by Hunter

I'm starting what will hopefully be a new weekly feature - the 'casino design photo of the week'. Basically, a picture of a design element or feature that I really like for some reason (and no, it won't just be pictures of Wynncore).

We start out this week with a picture from Encore. This is part of the convention area - a meeting room hallway. Whenever I walk a well-built meeting area I always wonder at all the little things they had to buy/have made - there are a ton of unique items from chairs to chests to sconces, etc...

I love the huge moldings Wynn uses, and I think the scalloped inserts in the ceiling really add another element to this area. Its small things like that, which make Wynn so wonderful. These are very time consuming, and add substantially to the cost of things, but can also make the room.

Great new feature! I agree with Brian about the huge crown moldings. They have always been one of Steve Wynn's signatures. I must have deleted photos I took of Bellagio's conference/meeting area after it was extended into the Spa Tower. The moldings, finish and flooring were markedly different than Wynn would have constructed. It still looked good, but it really showed the contrast between Wynn and MGM.

I saw one of these hallways in Wynn before opening and was simply over the moon. I was writing things like "the best parts of Wynn and Bellagio" and "this is what I wanted WLV to be" and my interest from Encore went from "another Steve Wynn joint I'll never be able to afford a room at yawwwn" to "HOLY COW."

Then I saw, well, the rest. Whoa. Seemed crazy at first, soon wore off on me.

I still try and find new angles or details in these halls when I can. They are, bar none, the best non-paywall spaces (by which I mean, not a restaurant or a sky casino) in Encore.

I certainly agree w/ Brian, detroit, and mike_ch. It's simply amazing, the amount of detail that went into this area which some folks will simply breeze through on their way to a convention meeting, and most will never pass through at all. It's another example of sweating the seemingly small details. And whether those conventioneers (and lost/drunk tourists) consciously notice or not, I have no doubt it leaves an impression. Last fall I took the opportunity to walk our group through here from Encore, ending up at Country Club for lunch--a very pleasant end to our trip.

The design of this room is very elegant. The molding and light fixtures work together nicely to create a very upscale atmosphere.
