Eastside Cannery Opens

Posted by Hunter

As Chuck at VegasTripping.com notes, the Eastside Cannery opens tonight.

I don't have this hotel in the RV or Vegas Mate databases yet and it brings me back to a question I've been asking myself for some time - should I remove a lot of the 'locals' joints from RateVegas and Vegas Mate?

Those pages get far less traffic than Strip and even Downtown properties and having them there means more upkeep and more data to clutter navigation. Is it worth it?

I'm sure I'd keep places like GVR and Red Rock and of course The Palms, Rio and other near-Strip joints. I'm talking about nixing the Fiesta, Texas Station, etc... If I'm going to do it, now is the time, especially for the iPhone app. Thoughts?

Well, I'm always of the opinion that the more data you can provide, the better. I say keep 'em, but I'm not the one that has to administer the site.

I'd like it if you kept the 'locals' stuff on.

Worth keeping:
- Red Rock
- GVR
- Palace Station
- Sunset Station
- Boulder Station
- Sam's Town
- Cannery East
- The Orleans
- South Point
- AZ Charlie's Boulder
- Santa Fe Station
- Rampart Casino (JW Mariott)
These hotels are either nice or in the case of the Boulder Highway places, grouped enough closely together that they kind of collectively assert their importance.

Maybe Worth It:
- Aliante Station (supposed to be really good, but located on the edge of civilization)
- Texas Station
- Suncoast

These places are nice, but aren't changed around as much or are far out in suburbs.

Could be removed:
- Fiesta Rancho
- Fiesta Henderson
- Cannery
- AZ Charlie Decatur

These places have pretty much remained the same for years and are way out there in suburbia. But keeping them around isn't much in the way of maintenance per se, they've all remained the same since I moved here.

It seems like the consensus so far is that basically, most of them should stay.

If I do remove anything it will probably more along the lines of what Mike's talking about - just a very few cherry picked from the list of least visited properties.

I did a sweep of all the restaurants for the Vegas Mate release and I'm working on some tools to push those changes back to the RateVegas.com database, making it easier to keep the two in sync down the road as well.

Vegas Mate will likely have some 'premium' content that isn't on the site but the site won't wither at the expense of the application. I plan to tie user reviews on the site into Vegas Mate in a future release.

I'm a little late, but I agree with Socalduck. The more the better, especially now that it looks to me, anecdotally, that more out of town visitors are opting for locals properties over the Strip for pricing reasons. Also, locals information helps us keep aware of the health of the entire Vegas valley. For example, today's RJ raises the question of whether Eastside Cannery will have an effect on Boyd's Sam's Town nearby.
