I never get tired of hearing him talk. But I still say the pool area is too small at Encore. I thought he learned from TI. Also after spending 4 days at Wynn last week, I still say there are not enough elevators to satisfy the guest. This is both on the tower and resort side. The elevator wait time is far greater than that at Mirage, and if once you do get an elevator, its usually full of people and there may or many not be room to enter.

Brian, I'm probably repeating myself, but the elevators at Wynn, especially in the Tower Suites, ruin Wynn's image. There are too few, they are slow and noisy and, as you point out, sometimes too full to get on. I hope the person who calculated the number of elevators needed at Wynn Las Vegas was fired before he or she started on Encore.

CityCenter retail:
How can the Strip support all the high-end stores? I don't understand because I'm not a shopper, but after my first visit to Forum Shops at Caesars, I've had no interest in seeing similar retail at other properties. Unless someone wins big in the casino and wants to spend it right away, why buy in Vegas when many of these stores are in many other cities around the country?

Detroit - I couldn't agree more. And if the problem is not fixed at Encore, I will personally call Wynn for a meeting to discuss this. If this was not corrected, it must be corrected for the golf course project. Oh how I miss the elevators at The Mirage, they were SO much better.

Detroit: Most of the high end retail available in Vegas is not available in other cities, except for NY, Chicago, LA. If you live in the heartland, you pretty much have to visit one of these cities to get brands like Chanel, Ferragamo, Zegna. Even compared to Chicago's Mag Mile, Vegas retail kicks ass. Every Thanksgiving weekend, Chicago hotels are sold out with Iowa and Indiana shoppers in town to start Xmas buying, this is probably working for hotels in Vegas, too. I think Wynn has enough high-end retail to make big money, but I wish he had more of it. City Center and Echelon are smart to have large malls. It's a great way to keep the wife and girlfriend busy while the guy plays cards.

I often hear complaints on this site about the elevators.I have only stayed on the resort side,so
I can only comment on those.I have stayed at
Wynn eight times at all different times of year
and never had a long wait or a crowd problem.
The only noise problem is the wind through the shafts.I should note I am refering to the lower floor elevators, maybe the ones for the upper floors have the problems you are talking about.
I feel they need to have security posted at the elevators 24 hours like Bellagio not only at night.

What is with the theme in all the media over the past few days of Steve Wynn, Benevolent Job Overlord? This is a message he has been trying to spread lately (see Steve F's post on the press release.)

Rather than buy into the hype, let's be realistic for just a minute. Everybody knew Encore was going to come online. Everybody knew they were going to need more people to meet demand and expected levels of service.

And yet the RJ and now Ch8 and others are reporting on it like it's news. It must be uncomfortable to have your head buried up in there.

Admittedly I was a critic of the garden/convention center idea for the golf course, but if recreates a true world class park with exotic flowers...etc. I think it truly will be a highlight of the town to come see. With the key that you have to walk through the casinos to get to it.

Hmmm....I was just there same time as Brian, and I have to agree with Mike K (what, *another* Mike on this board? ;). There was no problem with elevator traffic or speed whatsoever and we were on the 54th floor. Is there something like a rush hour that we've been missing?

I'll admit the crowding was noticeable on our first trip three years ago as well as an uncomfortable intrusion of summer heat into the elevators. Didn't notice the problem this time so maybe they corrected the ventilation?

Jobs: nearly every staffer we chatted with was looking fwd to moving to Encore. I can't believe their positions are confirmed at this stage so maybe it's wishful thinking, but the anticipation is there. mike_ch, I'll bet we'll be hearing the same stories when City Center and others come closer to completion.
