Downtown to Get Nightlife Upgrades

Posted by Hunter

Over the years, many developers have thought that they had the right fix for the woes of Downtown Las Vegas.

Well, one thing they've not had a lot of is nightlife but that is changing.

Looks like we'll see something at the Four Queens and of course, the Golden Nugget is also talking about a second floor nightclub as well.

Will this help?

I would like to see downtown more of downtown on my next trip. On another not, where is the "arts district" (is that what it's called?) On VegasTodayandTomorrow.com, they talk about construction in the art district and was wondering if any of you have visited and what you think about it. I thought it would be fun to check it out one day and look at the different galleries.

I don't think it's a wise idea unless they really plan to step up their security. I don't know if you've ever observed the operations downtown, but Golden Nugget is the only one that seems to hire with Strip-like standards. Downtown draws a colorful crowd and I see nightclubs as an added security threat. I know Luxor had a number of problems with RA and heard some crazy stories from people who worked there.

The outdoor FSE events only do a so-so job of bringing people together downtown, and they don't have the cost or the snob appeal of a nightclub.

I would have preferred this sort of thing stay on Fremont East, which is a really ugly looking area near the El Cortez that the City wants to renovate into a night spot. If the Fremont casinos try and do the same thing, Fremont East runs the risk of turning into another Neonopolis.

Nathan, if you want to see the arts district on your next trip ride the Deuce up to Charleston or Hoover. Just make sure after you exit that you head west, not east.

I just went downtown tonight, and I think I'll sort of move my opinion from negative to neutral. Despite all the doom and gloom, there's quite a few people downtown on your typical Friday night. Downtown has quite a few rooms and they're not doing a bad job filling them up, they're just having trouble getting the people in those room to not just immediately depart for the Strip for all their needs.

For the first time, I watched the Fremont Street light show canopy thing. It's incredibly corny, and I can't imagine why people would waste their time watching that, but it's there, they're there, and it's something to do. However the crowd watching it was different from your usual JET crowd.

So I think downtown nightlife could work, so long as they aren't expecting to lure in the spoiled brats with fat wallets lining up outside Pure.
