Wynn Macau Photos

Posted by Hunter

Thanks to reader John for pointing out that Steve Friess, of popular Las Vegas podcast, The Strip, has posted some photos of Wynn Macau, opening next week.

Also, an article on Steve's trip:

Sweet, I guess I won't have to wait till 9/6 for these! It sure looks cool. I especailly like the black carpet and the pool area looks small, but nice.

I assume that Starbucks is in Wynn? Thats a change for him! But I like it.

Great article and photos. I'm surprised cameras were let in before the opening.

I definitely like what I'm seeing with the space--narrow hallways, relatively small reception, and while holding to WLV design elements, still has its own flair. That's good news to me because, while I love WLV, I'd be dissapointed traveling across the world only to find the exact same thing on a smaller scale.

Nice effort in trying to keep the metal detectors aesthetically pleasing, but they're still an eye-sore.

As Hunter had mentioned in the chat, there'll definitely be cross-marketing, although I wonder if it'll only be limited to the top high roller market. Can a relatively modest gambler with a host at WLV be able to set something up at Wynn Macau? Should be interesting to see.

It is nice to see that Wynn Macau will have its own style, and it almost seems like it is a little more Bellagio-esque than WLV. If you look at those pics, you can see that he put in a revolving door, and the ceiling looks like it could eventually house a large Dale Chihuly glass sculpture, rather than that large, red chandelier that looks rather out of place. I find it interesting that Steve didn't go quite so extravagant on the signage, he took away those artistic ceiling posts. Still though, its nice to see another Steve Wynn property that is going to look beautiful.

I know I shouldn't even say this, and I am SO greatful of these pictures, however, does it not seem ironic to you, that this is the opening of a world class casino, yet there are no casino pictures in any of these???

Hey folks...

So happy folks are enjoying this stuff.

As I've said, we're working on getting permission to use audio from Wynn and Adelson on "The Strip," but it's likely we won't do that until mid-Sept because we have two shows lined up for the next two weeks that can't be changed for various reasons (George Maloof this week because he was our first guest and it's our first anniversary and Gloria Estefan next week because we'll be recording from Miami and who better?) So I'll keep you all waiting unless I get permission sooner and then we may do a special edition. Really depends on a few things. But promise, it'll be worth the wait. Wynn, as always, said some things I'd never heard before.

As for the photos, I do have a couple of casino shots but maybe not any pan-casino shots. I'll have to look at what I didn't post. Some of it I didn't post because I thought it was redundant or I didn't think the pix were all that good. But I'll look and see.

Also, I have a load of Wynn Macao swag -- matchbooks, room items, etc. -- that we may auction on eBay to raise money to support the podcast. So stay tuned for that.

Best,
Steve

Steve,

So glad you left a comment. The photos are great but as complete Vegas freaks, we have an insatiable need for MORE MORE MORE. :-)

Anything you have would I'm sure be great to see.

As far as auctioning stuff off, make sure you drop me a note and I'll post the auction here. I'm certain that interests my readers (and me).

Cheers,
Hunter

Steve, do let us know about the eBay action. We're the kind of people that'll run your matchbooks up to $100 (well... maybe not that high).

The local Macau newspaper (www.macaodaily.com) actually has an article about Steve's article in its business section today (for those that can read Chinese).

I take it from the fact that they repeat pretty much everything from the article that Steve Friess was quite privilged to get this view on Wynn Macau and the local press haven't got much of a look in yet (if at all).

Business Week has got an interesting article on this Wednesday's opening. Some strong words from old Sheldy at the end:

Critics are saying that Wynn is putting too much emphasis on restaurants, shopping, etc. and not on gaming. Is it just me, or do these criticisms parallel the preopening days of Mirage? Here's hoping for history to repeat itself.

Didn't Wynn Resorts say in their quarterly that even they were surprised by the amount of interest from Vegas partons in visiting Macau? These folks would definitely stay and spend. Of course that could be just the buzz factor or the Wynn marketing machine in action. Adelson may have a slight point about the longer term prospects for the all-new Strip vs. old seedy Macau.

Sounds like this Business Week/AP reporter has some kind of axe to grind with Wynn, though, doesn't it? Co-crediting Adelson with being a LV Strip "visionary" even. Hm.

Here are two really great News Video Clips by US News 3s reporter Steve Crupi whom recently returned from a special assignment in China where he got an up-close look at the amazing building boom in Macau, a destination that calls itself Asias Las Vegas.

These are two clips which give you an insight of Macau today! http://macaudailyblog.com/2006/09/05/building-asias-las-vegas/
