Las Vegas Photos By Andreas Schmidt

Posted by Hunter

I received a review copy of a new Las Vegas photo book by German photographer Andreas Schmidt. I see a lot of these types of books and most have nice photos but are very cookie cutter. This book is different - click the link to read more to find out about this book.

This book is 144 pages of pictures of Las Vegas and the surrounding area. What I like about this book is that it is full of unusual perspectives, interesting blurred movement and great compositions.

There are several shots of the long sprawling hotel hallways that we're all familiar with, showing the seemingly endless and sometimes impersonal aspects to these buildings. Pictures of rooftops, perspectives through parking garages and abstract reflections are also included.

If there is an over-arching theme to this photo series it seems to emphasize that the Las Vegas Strip is an elaborate facade. That theme is also echoed in the included essay by Chrisoph Ribbat. My favorite photo is on page 110 and was taken inside Bellagio - a simple shot of an employee back of house entrance.

The shots seem to have been taken somewhere in the 2002-2003 time-frame as Wynn is not present and most of TI's shots show the older exterior paint. The book is printed on excellent quality paper and hardcover bound.

For those looking for a very interesting photo book on Las Vegas, this is a don't miss - you don't have anything like this in your collection.
