Wynn: Day One

Posted by Hunter

I'll just jump right in...

The hotel is amazing. It looks fantastic and 'feels' great.

Quick Notes:

  • Terrace Pointe Cafe - Fantastic coffee shop, though pricey.
  • Cosa Cucina - Had a great lunch here today. The chef was there and we talked for a few minutes.

Check In Problems

In retrospect, I should have known the first Sunday check out/check in would be hectic. We couldn't get into our room until 5pm and lots of others were in the same boat. People were NOT happy. The staff did their best but it was frustrating. Also, it took 70 minutes for my bags to arrive from the bell desk.

Tonight is dinner at SW Steakhouse, so that should be a good time.

I can't imagine ever staying at Bellagio again. For the money, I would pick Wynn every time.

Most photos will be added shortly. I probably won't have a chance to write a super-in-depth article until I get back.

How about some pics of The Palazzo site across the street if you get a chance.

We had no problem checking in. We arrived at 1PM on opening day. No line. Sarah helped us. She was really great. Checked us in right away. Our room was on the 39th floor overlooking the amazing golf course and pool area. Nice room too. Very comfortable beds...

I was there last Thursday, and as far as the Palazzo site goes - there isn't much to see or take photos of yet - just a GIANT pit in the ground with a LOT of construction activity starting up. I also noticed a big sign stating that a Walgreens (yes, the drugstore chain) is apparently going up smack dab between the Venetian and Palazzo. The way the Venetian is "cut out" it looks like the Palazzo portion will be built actually connected to the Venetian - as the plain exterior walls on the north side of the building(s) run right next to the Palazzo site. The Venetian clan is also very busy (there were over 50 workers busy) on finishing the new pool area that looks like it will be amazing.

And..although its not everyones speed, The Wynn property, I thought, was absolutely amazing. Steve Wynn is in my opinion, the Walt Disney of the casino industry.

I don't mean to degrade the place by saying this but my first impression walking in was that
Willy Wonka came in and redecorated the Bellagio. I kept waiting for an oompa loompa to pop out of the flowers...but apparently the Oompas have been replaced by a very noticible security detail wearing purple leisure suits.

The Wynn is whimsically luxurious and easily the most beautiful hotel/casino I've ever seen. The details in the tile work, masonry, even the wall coverings on the walls are amazing (I can't even describe the feel of the waffley fabric on the walls near the ParasolUp/Down Escalators) - the photos don't do it justice. Everyone around me was gasping as they walked in. I went back to the Bellagio shortly after seeing the Wynn and although its beautiful, it actually seemed kind of drab, bland and worn compared to what I had seen at the colorful Wynn property.

Thanks Don.

Some of us construction nuts even like to look at the holes in the ground.

It's a sickness.

Our trip to Wynn for the grand opening was so much fun. On day one, my sister hit the royal! We gambled and did some exploring and checked out the spa, shops and cabanas at the pool. All sensational! The bar and casino out at the pool was not open. There were some things that needed to be worked out (see my restraunt review)including lack of cocktail waitresses in the casino. It was very difficult to get a drink the first day. Also, finding an ash tray at the pool area and restraunts was not easy. As for the rooms, there were no toiletries (until we found a houskeeper who gave them to us), no menu for room service, and the bathroom mirror makes you look twice as wide as you really are...please get rid of them Mr.Wynn! At the end of the first day, I went to take off my new white shoes and found them covered in red fuzz from the casino carpets...all and all it was a wonderful day!

I am wondering if anyone saw the show and how it was. My other question is if anyone golfed, and is it really worth $500!! Thanks for any info.

We didn't see the show, but just as it was letting out, the sea parted, cameras, lights and Donald Trump walked through with his beautiful wife. I did not see anyone golfing except Katie & Matt.
