Whether it's gambling tips, choosing the right hotel or finding out what's the hottest club, RateVegas is here to answer all of your questions.
Is there something going on during the Weekend of Sept. 20th? It seems as if all the hotel prices are unusually high then. Is there somewhere I can get info for vegas events?
There are several conventions before and after that weekend. Many hotels will raise rates to capture the spillover of attendees that come early or stay after the event.
I am getting married at The Four Seasons on January 31, 2003. My fiance has been to LV, I have not. Neither one of us is much into gambling.
I would like to know:
1. Good places to have my hair and make-up done, and for my mother and bridesmaids as well, on the day of the wedding (the wedding is at 6:00 pm, so we can take our time);
2. My fiance would like to spend the wedding night and one or two more nights at The Four Seasons, and then a few nights at The Venetian. Is The Venetian romantic? Are there honeymoon packages available there?
3. We are debating between a helicopter tour of The Strip and a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon (this would mean doing a limousine tour of The Strip). What do you suggest?
4. What types of clothes should I bring to my honeymoon (aside from lingerie)? Is LV a dressy place? Are the casinos like Montecarlo’s, where a jacket and tie for gentlemen and a dress for the ladies are required? What about other types of entertainment, like shows and the like? What is the weather like in early February?
5. What shows do you suggest for a couple on their honeymoon?
Great site, and thanks for your help!
First off, congratulations!
As far as a good place to get pampered and have hair and makeup done, I would strongly suggest the Canyon Ranch Spa at the Venetian. It is a fabulous facility. Call ahead and make reservations to make sure you can get in…
The Venetian can be a very romantic hotel, it was designed after one of the most romantic cities in the World! As far as specific honeymoon packages, you would have to inquire with them directly. In most cases, honeymoon specials are included as part of a complete wedding package, and since you’re having the ceremony elsewhere, they may not apply. Still, depending on your budget, there are some spectacular suites at the Venetian that would perfect for a honeymoon…
If you are debating between a helicopter ride over the Strip vs. the Grand Canyon, you need to ask yourself what you’re interested in seeing. A ride over the Strip at night with the lights glowing is a spectacular sight… But if you two are more astounded by natural beauty, the Grand Canyon might be a better choice. To see some pictures from a Strip helicopter ride, click on the ‘Pictures’ link above. There are helicopter pictures for both the Bellagio and the Mirage…
As far as clothing goes, Las Vegas is truly accepting of all types of dressers. I have seen a man in a tuxedo playing blackjack next to a man with bermuda shorts and a ripped t-shirt. There is no dress code in Las Vegas, except in some of the fancier restaurants (even then, it is usually just a jacket for the men)… The beauty of Vegas is that you can dress up as nice as you like and not feel out of place, but you can also stumble through the casino in the morning in some jeans, looking for your morning coffee. The bottom line is that it is up to you… That said, you will notice the higher end casinos will usually have nicer dressed patrons (Bellagio, Caesars, Venetian, Mandalay Bay/Four Seasons, the Mirage, etc…). I would probably recommend at least bringing some nicer things, in case of a fancy dinner. Also, it can be fun to get dressed up and go to a show, though that’s not mandatory…
The weather in early February is usually pleasant during the day and windy at night. Also, the evenings can be a lot colder than many expect. Las Vegas is in the high desert and during the Winter, the temperature drops quite a bit at night…If you are looking for shows to check out, I would suggest either show from Cirque de Soleil, Mystere at Treasure Island or O at the Bellagio. Both are elegant and awe-inspiring. If you’re looking for something with a few more laughs, check out Danny Gans. He is a singing impressionist that performs at the Mirage. His show has been one of the most popular in Vegas for the last few years and he literally had me laughing out of my seat. A great show. All shows at MGM Mirage properties (Bellagio, Mirage, Treasure Island, MGM Grand, New York New York and the Golden Nugget) sell tickets 90 days before the date of show. If you’re interested in one of those shows, I would seriously consider getting tickets as soon as they are available. They are quite a hot commodity. For more information on tickets to those shows, you can visit the hotel Web sites, linked from the hotel pages on this site.
Anyway, it sounds like you’ll have a great time!
Great site, Hunter! A wealth of information!
We are traveling to Las Vegas at the end of Sept. for two nights, taking abour 5 days for a side trip to Southern Utah, and then back to Las Vegas for three nights at the beginning of Oct. There are three of us, a couple and single, who need two rooms (preferably adjoining) or a two-bedroom suite.
Last time we were in Vegas, we stayed at the Mirage, but they were not terribly accomodating with the room situation, so we went over to the Treasure Island and found the attitude over there much more our speed. They were able to accommodate our request for adjoining rooms, and gave a nice view of the Pirate Battle — all for $49/night… We are planning on staying at the TI probably for the first two nights of the trip, and are considering a couple of other options for the second leg. We love the TI, but one of the members of our group gets REALLY cranky when she doesn’t eat frequently throughout the day, and frankly, TI does not seem to have the greatest dining options… We are not fancy eaters, but we are vegetarians, which makes things a little trickier. We considered the Hard Rock because Mr. Lucky’s is 24 hours and also considered the Rio because of the buffet. But Hard Rock seems maybe a little too young and too much of a party crowd for us, and a lot of what I have heard about the Rio is that it is overrated and the rooms, while big, are kind of worn… Any other ideas for moderately priced places (equivalent to TI) with good, ‘round-the-clock, but not too expensive, dining options and rooms equivalent to TI which we might try on our second leg? It’s a tall order I know… Thanks for any help you can provide.
One final question for you — Where is the closest supermarket to the strip? We will have a rental car but don’t want to spend too much time on the trip to a grocery store.
I would have to agree that most of the dining options at TI are not the greatest aspect of the property. My favorite 24 hour coffee shop type restaurant in Las Vegas is the Caribe Cafe at the Mirage. Other great spots are Mr. Lucky’s and also the Grand Lux Cafe at the Venetian… One hotel you might try is Ballys. They have a pretty decent 24 hour restaurant and the prices should be similar to TI… Or you could give the Mirage another shot… As far as grocery stores go, I’m not sure this is the absolute closest, but there is a Vons not far… It is at 1155 E. Twain… Take Flamingo heading East until you hit Twain. Make a left. Have fun!
Do the Emerald rooms at MGM have any good views at all?, possibly from floors 10-13? $100/night is my limit and I want to stay there. If I do a “$20trick”, and they upgrade to the larger tower, won’t they charge me more?.
The higher Emerald Tower rooms can have good views. The main difference is that there is less square footage compared to rooms in the Grand Tower… As far as the upgrade goes, if they take your $20 and want to charge you for the bigger room, then the trick didn’t really work…
This may sound like a strange question, but if there’s any place to get an answer, it would probably be here… My father passed away suddenly almost three years ago. He was a big gambler, lived and worked in Vegas for a few years and racked up TONS of points with various players’ clubs. My question is — are club points transferable to next of kin if the primary cardholder is deceased? Kinda strange question I know, but I’m curious… I will be traveling to Las Vegas in late September and was hoping that I could get some extra perks from the hundreds of thousands of points he left behind… (And if the answer is yes, how might I identify myself as his daughter if I don’t have any of his slot cards?) Thanks so much for your help with this! GREAT SITE!
While not a question I get every day, it has come up before. In most cases, the points are not transferrable except to a spouse if they had a joint account. Do you know at which casinos he focused his play? I would suggest you contact me via email. I may be able to help you further. You can find the address on the ‘Contact’ page above.
Hi Hunter, great Vegas site (and believe me I’ve looked at them all)! Coming for 7 nights October 12-19. Didn’t realize what a convention nightmare this time would be, and can’t change dates now. My 65 year old mother and I (female -43 with a bad foot) come every year for our annual vacation. Neither of us cares about a pool or parking. Have stayed at TI, NYNY, Caesars and others. I currently have courtesy holds on double rooms at TI, Mirage and Paris. Have to make a decision soon! None are cheap: Mirage w/view upcharge($20)after AAA discount + tax is $1258, TI is $1219, and Paris w/view upcharge ($20 per night)is $1463. These are the best rates I could get after much hard work on the internet and on the phone. Some properties are telling me that they are already sold out for some of the nights.
We do sort of “graze” gamble, but it’s not our primary interest. We just love walking around the various properties seeing what’s new, watching the shows, just soaking up the feel of Vegas. It’s like Disneyworld to us. We liked NYNY but wanted to be more centrally located on the strip and a room with a better view.
Sorry to be so long winded, but need your fine tuned advice on the following if you please:
1. Best room with a view, good bathroom, comfy beds and pleasant, accomodating staff & housekeeping. The reviews I have read go both ways at all 3 properties, so I can’t decide.
2. Should I pay the extra per diem for a “guaranteed view”? Since we will be there for a week, we want to have a nice strip view. If we got a standard room
and were unable to upgrade, it would be very disappointing. Which are the best rooms to ask for at these 3 hotels for a view of the strip? Paris says I get a guaranteed view of Bellagio and the fountains for the $20 extra. Mirage gives either a volcano or pool view for $20 extra, but we really want to see the strip (have done the volcano). TI doesn’t guarantee anything.
3. Even some recent reviews say Mirage is going downhill, drab rooms, poor housekeeping and a long walk to the elevators. TI is good, but at the far end of our target prowling area. Some Paris reviews are great, some not. We loved the kitchy atmosphere of the Paris casino and shopping area last time, and thought it would be a lot of fun to stay there. Is it worth the extra money? Looks like a good location, but not sure…
Thanks in advance for your advice!
Wow… Lots of info… Thanks for the kind words…
Okay… Let’s tackle this one… I’ll answer your numbered questions first:
1. All three properties have good views if you know what to ask for… My experience with the staff at all 3 properties has been excellent. I stay at TI on a regular basis, the Mirage and Paris less so. All have great clean rooms. Paris is the newest, and the Mirage and TI have both remodeled in the last few years.
2. At the Mirage, ask for a South/Pool view and you will be able to see all the way down to Mandalay Bay. Same thing goes at Treasure Island. At Paris you want the Bellagio view. It’s by far the best. My last trip there all I saw out the window was the Aladdin loading dock. If view is something that is important to you, I would at least consider paying the fee. It is very possible you would get a good view without it, but you never know.
3. I disagree with folks saying the Mirage is going downhill. I honestly feel like there is a certain magic at the Mirage that isn’t present at many other properties. Paris is also a great place to stay. Lots of energy and great location… It sounds like TI is probably a bit too far North for your planned activities…
From what I am hearing, I would probably lean towards the Mirage or Paris, and maybe a bit more towards Paris for this trip. The Mirage is a great place with great restaurants, but Paris has a more central location. Either way, I think you’ll be happy. Good luck!
Hunter.. I found price for Venetian $118 per night Sep 1st to 4th. Is this good price? And I read negative feedback about Venetian Staff who were very rude and not nice specially to people booked room with cheaper than regular price..Is this true?
And to compare with Mirage, which is better to stay..
$118 is a good rate for the Venetian at any time of the year… While some folks have had some trouble there, I have heard just as many reports of excellence… The Mirage is another excellent property, but is about 10 years older than the Venetian. At that price, I would give the Venetian a try.
My wife and I are debating on whether to stay at the Palms or Hard Rock. What it comes down to for us is the rooms. How do the rooms in the newer Hard Rock tower compare to those in the Palms. Also, what about the bathrooms. Specifically, do they have seperate showers and tubs?
Well, the Palms being a brand new resort, the rooms have a brand new feel to them. The rooms at the two resorts are roughly comparable. Most of the rooms at the Hard Rock have a shower/tub combo.
We will be in Vegas in October and want to eat one nice meal at a steakhouse. I would like to do a party of four including desert, wine and tip for $200. Any recommendations?
I would give the steakhouse at Circus Circus some serious consideration. A great place to eat with great food, but very reasonable prices.
I don’t mean to overkill the subject but we’re going to Las Vegas (Paris Hotel) for the first time next month and I was prepared to try the $20 room trick. I just read on another board that the clerks find this insulting and also they could get in trouble for it. They said that a polite inquiry works just as well. Any info you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I’m sure that we’ll be happy with any room there- but a free upgrade sure would be nice. Thanks!
While it is possible a certain clerk could get insulted, that’s not usually the case… It is not an abnormal practice. As far as getting just as nice of an upgrade just for asking, that is totally possible. It all depends on the situation and the clerk.
I’ll be visiting LV in two weeks and because of recent foot surgery, I will be renting a scooter to get around. How is LV for the handicapped? Are there a lot of elevators? I will be staying at the MGM Grand. Any help is appreciated. Love this site Hunter!
Thanks a lot!
All of the hotels have great handicapped access. Since many of them have been built in the last 10 years, that was a primary concern. All hotels have ample elevator access to almost all facilities. I doubt you will have any trouble in that department. Have a great trip.
Getting married at the Four Seasons in January. Never been to LV. Suggestions to ensure great service would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Just ask for what you need. Be sure to be firm in case someone tries to blow you off. Make sure you mention you are getting married. I doubt that you’ll have any problems at the Four Seasons. Have fun and congratulations!
I am planning to visit vegas with my husband 2nd week of sept over a weekend. We cannot decide where to stay on the strip. Some hotels are pretty expensive. I was wondering if anyone has been to Imperial Palace as I am getting a good deal on this place. Would there be any other hotel on the strip or near it which anybody would like to refer.
I would check in at Treasure Island, Ballys, and the Aladdin before you commit to the IP.
Is it worth it to rent a cabana at the Mirage pool? If it is, how is it priced?
Usually ~$100/day. They are quite popular and book up quickly. If you plan on spending the whole day at the pool, a cabana is the way to do it!
I am very interested in working for your organization. Where would I sbmit my resume?
We’re flattered, but at this point we’re not looking at adding any new people. Thanks for the interest!
Hello, Hunter
My wife and I will be going to Vegas for the first time this Oct. Just wondering, would it be very crowded during our stay (Wed – Sat). In gerneral, which of the following (not too expensive)hotel do you recommend: Bally’s, Paris, Luxor, Flamingo, Excalibur, or you have another recommendation.
October is the beginning of the convention season in Las Vegas, so depending on the week, it could be crowded… If there is not a convention in town, I would expect it to be medium to light volume… As far as hotel choices, I would recommend Ballys, Paris, and the Luxor from your list. I would also consider Treasure Island. Have a great time!
Hi there—When I was last in Vegas (June) we went to a club at the Palms pool called “Skin”, which they held on Tuesday and Friday nights. Now that I am headed back (in Mid September) I am wondering if the club still happens on those nights.
Skin is only open during the Summer, which in Las Vegas means May-October-ish… After checking with the Palms, it looks like they plan to keep it open until the first week of November. Have fun!
A group of us going to Vegas in a few weeks on a Monday through Thursday night, we would like to try out the nightclubs. Which clubs would you recommend to 4 college guys, thanx.
The short answer: Ra, Baby’s, The Beach, Ghostbar, Rain.
Read back several pages to see some more in-depth answers.
My family and I will be heading to Vegas soon and would like to know which tours, such as the Grand Canyon are recommended. I’m sure that we will enjoy Vegas but we still want to leave out two days for different sights. Do you have any suggestions?
The Grand Canyon is a spectacular sight, especially if you’ve never seen it… Other than that, I would check out Red Rocks, not far from Las Vegas. It will be very hot, but the rock formations and colors there are beautiful.
Tell me what you know about rooms at the Hard Rock… what rooms are best ? facing which way ? Thank you so much !
Most folks like to face the Strip! The Hard Rock rooms are, in my opinion, pretty spartan… Not a lot of frills, but it fits the hotel’s whole theme.
Hi. I will be going to the Mirage on August 27 for 4 nights with my family. I was wondering if anybody has used the $20 trick recently here and if I could get an upgrade to the Tower room or at least to a higher room with a view…
Thanks.
You can probably get a better view just by asking nicely!
Heading to Vegas in mid-Sept for Mon-Wed. nights. What can you tell me about the chance of an early 1pm check-in at Luxor, or check-in via the airport. $20 trick still a possibility with either of those scenarios? What are the best food options for buffet/reasonably-priced cafes or restaurants, and where do such Luxor options fall in line? Heard the Excalibur food blows.
Getting an early check-in depends on the hotel volume… Very hard to predict but they always try to accomodate you… As far as the $20 trick, you have a chance… Go ahead and try!
Hi. First time going to Vegas. My wife and 4 year old daughter have booked a Tower room at the Luxor in mid-September for Mon-Tue-Wed nites. Heard the Pyramid is rather noisy. True? Nonetheless, I may try the $20 trick to get an upgrade to the Pyramid jacuzzi suite. Days of week and time of year favorable, you think? Besides a strip view, does just about any room have a view of the mountains? Lastly, how long will it take us to monorail/walk from Luxor all the way up to TI? Thanks a million (if I win anything…..HAHA)!!
The pyramid can be noisy, as the casino sounds can travel right up the atrium… The pyramid jacuzzi suites are great rooms… For the nights you’re going for, you may be able to swing it, but you never really know… Take that chance! Have fun. Good luck!
First time going to Vegas, in mid-September. Not a gambler, but wife and I will likely drop $50-75 each on quarter/dollar slots in hopes of winning even just a few hundred bucks, or to break even anyway. Likely? Or do we stand an equal or greater chance of not winning a single cent? Also, I know the Luxor pools have fountains. Do they also have any water slides? Thanks……….
No water slides at the Luxor, sorry… As far as the gambling question, it is very easy to drop $50-$75 in a slot machine without any win at all, it all depends on the machine… Most of the those machines pay back between 85%-100% of what is run through, but those numbers are over the life of the machine… So, you could end up a big winner, or not… You never know, and that’s the fun!
First trip to LV, for me, husband and 4 yr old. Staying at Luxor. At one website, while ALL major hotels had +/- reviews, Luxor had virtually no bad remarks on the rooms, other than Tower is quieter than Pyramid. Will take turns dropping $$ into slots, walk the Strip as far as TI to take in all the free attractions like pirate ships, fountains, lions, etc. And also doing the plane/bus/heli tour of the canyon for 5.5 hours. Mid-Sept, Mon-Wed, will I wait in a long line to go up the Strat Tower? Best time to view Bellagio fountains (sunset or night)? Thank you.
The line for the Stratosphere can be long on the weekends, but usually just a few minutes during the week. As far as the fountains of Bellagio, I feel like the show is almost totally different night or day, so I would try both. Also, since they have so many different songs choreographed, you’ll most likely see an entirely different show. Good luck.
I am going to Las Vegas during Labor day weekend. I have never been before and I’m very excited. I will be staying at Treasure Island for my Honeymoon. I have a regular room booked (not a tower room. Does Treasure Island do anything special for honeymooners? Can I get an upgrade to a tower room? If not, does a standard room have a good view? Thanks a lot!!
Depending on the volume of guests at the hotel, you may be able to get a free upgrade. Make sure you tell the check-in clerk that you are celebrating your honeymoon! Congratulations and good luck!
I’m going to making my 2nd trip to Las Vegas in mid October and would like to go and see a show as that is something that we didn’t do last time. Are there any shows in particular that you would recommend seeing? I’ve heard that “O” at the Bellagio is spectacular although a bit pricey. Thanks.
Yes, O is a pricey but great show… If I had to pick my favorites, I would rate the following as “not to miss” shows:
Mystere at Treasure Island
O at Bellagio
Danny Gans at the Mirage
Blue Man Group at Luxor
Lance Burton at Monte Carlo
Now, they are all pretty different (except O and Mystere)… If you want to see a Cirque de Soleil show but don’t want to spring for O, try Mystere. It is cheaper, and some folks thing it is even better… Danny Gans will keep you laughing, Blue Man will keep you scratching your head (in a good way) and Lance Burton will keep you wondering how he pulled it off. Have a great time!
I am interested in your summer special for the dates of Sept 20 & 21st. I would like to surprise my son and daughter-in-law with a stay at your hotel for te 6th anniversary.
RE: PARIS HOTEL
Please let me know what the availability is for that weekend. Looking forward to your reply.
Thanking you in advance for your cooperation.
Kaye Barton
Unfortunately I don’t own a casino… I wish I did… If you’re looking for some great rates, click the banner in the right column. Have fun!
We are coming to Las Vegas in November and I was looking to book a room at the Golden Nugget. Is it worth? Is Fremont street a nice area to stay? What are some areas to stay away from? Thanks.
The Nugget is a great hotel that just re-did all their rooms in a rennovation. Fremont can be a lot of fun… It is part of the whole Vegas experience. If you haven’t tried it, you’ll also want to visit the Strip for a different kind of Vegas flavor.
Hunter, I will be staying at the Luxor next month. would you recommend the pyramid rooms or the tower rooms? My friend has never been to Vegas before Im sure he would like a view of the strip, What should I ask for room location? I am going to try the $20. trick for an upgrade, do you know if any of the upgraded rooms would have 2 beds? Thanks…..
The pyramid is a great place to stay for a first-timer, since it is pretty unique… The only rooms that have a great Strip view at Luxor are in the tower, and even then, it is somewhat obscured by the Excalibur next door… As far as room types, they offer several types of rooms with 2 queens, so you should be able to find something you’d like.
I live In Detroit, Michigan. And I like to bet on sports. Is it possiable to make wadgers over the internet with you’r casino.
Internet Gaming is currently illegal in the United States, and I do not operate a casino. I would suggest you make the trip to fabulous Las Vegas and have a great time at the sports book.
I will be going to Vegas in mid-August, staying at the Hard Rock with my girlfriend. If the $20 upgrade is unuccessful, what should I ask for if I want a view of the Strip? I heard one of the towers has nice marble bathroom with large tub and the other tower just has “regular” bathrooms. Is this true. Also how long of a walk to the strip from here?
Both the older and newer sections have rooms that are about the same size, etc… The newer rooms are a bit niver in terms of furnishings… I would ask for a room facing West (towards the Strip)… Walking to the Strip from the Hard Rock is doable, but it’s not a short walk… A couple of miles… It looks a lot closer than it is… I would hop in a cab and be there in just a few minutes if I were you…
I have a question about valet parking in strip area hotel.
If i’m a hotel guest it will be free or not? I’m going to stay at mirage next month..
Most (pretty much all) offer free valet to anyone… Sometimes the valet is full and in that case they will only take guests… It is customary to tip the valet, as that is their primary source of income.
i will be staying at monte carlo for 4 nts
what tower or view should i ask for
and will a $ 100 trick get me a upgrade to a monaco suite
any advice would help thx…
See the previous question in regards to the $100… As far as tower/view, they only have one tower… You can get views up and down the Strip in both directions, so stress a Strip view and you should be in good shape.
I keep reading about the $20 trick on your site…WHAT IS THIS? I’m heading to Vegas in a couple of weeks, and wouldn’t mind finding ways of staying at a nice place, but “saving” money..to play the tables!
I’ve answered a lot of questions about the $20 trick here before… I would consider reading back a couple of pages for descriptions. That should answer your question. Good luck!
Thanks hunter for fast response…
I’ve seen the Caesars Palace offers package which is called ‘Emperors Getaway – Three Night’ for $125 p/n.
It includes two breakfast and one dinner at buffet for two people..I was wondering what rooms come with this package because I’ve never seen Caesars room. And to compare with Steve Whyn’s resorts, Caesars Palace could be comparable or behind( rooms, pool, casino and service.) Actually I booked at Mirage.
Caesars usually includes their older rooms (i.e. not the Palace Tower) in their package deals… Caesars is a great property. The newer rooms are as good or better than any former Wynn property, with the possible exception of Bellagio… The older rooms at CP are not as nice, but they aren’t terrible either.
i have just recently heard about the $20 trick.
what i was wondering was ..will a $ 100 trick
work better if staying for 4 nts. i will be staying at
monte carlo for a great rate , but would like to get
the monaco suite…do you think it is worth it..?
it’s for our 20th anniversary..thx..
Hehe… A $100 trick might work in certain situations, but it could be going way overboard. There is only a certain amount of leeway that the check-in agents have, so in many cases the difference between $20 and $100 wouldn’t help you much.
Do you know if Andre’ Philippe Gagnon has video’s for sale like Danny Gans does? Also his official web site?
Comment: I just found your web site. It’s excellent!! Thankyou very much!
He is presently not performing, as far as I can tell. I know that his contract with the Venetian is fulfilled and I heard rumblings he might end up at Paris…
Thankyou for your time!!
I perform a one man legend show called “Showcase of Stars” doing tributes to Engelbert, Conway Twitty, Neil Diamond & Elvis etc. based out of Toronto Canada. I’m performing in Branson in August but I have no contacts in Las Vegas.
Could you please tell me how I could get a contact list of (the local agents & venues e-mail, contact name & mailing addresses) of people who could help
me get started in Las Vegas. I know I would do well because a few of the top Elvis entertainers do well there and they don’t really sound like him. A few are also great! Please help me if you can. Thankyou!
P.S. Perhaps there are showcase clubs for my type of show? Sorry this is so long!!
Are you represented by an agent? As with many Las Vegas opportunities, much of your success will be based on who you know in the community… Cold-calls from out of state will probably not be too successful. As far as getting venue information, I would recommend the industry standard, Pollstar. They publish lists of agents, bookers, and venues for the entire United States. Good luck!
I’m going to Vegas in Aug. and I’m staying at the Flamingo. I would like to try for the free room upgrade by passing the twenty dollar bill, but I would also like to take advantage of the Airport check-in as the lines to check in at the Flamingo are always long. I would like to know if it’s possible to get free a room upgrade this way if using the airport check-in, or do I have to try this directly at the Hotel?
Hotel check-in usually presents a better change of getting the upgrade. Your mileage may vary.
Hi..
I’m going to go vegas in August, and thinking about to stay at Mirage or TI. To compare those two resort, which one is worth to spend $100 per night? And could you compare in detail such as c pool, casino ,restaurant…
Both are great resorts, and they are owned by the same company, MGM Mirage. They were designed to serve two different markets… The Mirage was originally designed to cater to high-rollers and celebrities. TI’s original focus was on providing a high quality Las Vegas experience for less money… In recent years, this has changed a bit… While the Mirage still caters to high-end players, room rates and casino limits are not out control for customers with less resources… TI also has aimed their sites a bit higher… Recent room rennovations at both properties leave them both with great rooms, comparable in size…
As far as the casino goes, I find the dealers at TI to be much more friendly than at the Mirage…
When it comes to pool, there is no question that the Mirage is FAR superior. Pictures are available on this site (click Pictures on top)…
As far as restaurants go, both have some great choices. The buffet at the Mirage is better than TI, and their coffee shop, the Caribe Cafe, is superior over the Terrace Cafe at TI. When it comes to fine dining, the Buccaneer Bay restaurant at TI and Kokomo’s at the Mirage are both excellent choices. Have a great time!
My husband and I are looking for a hotel in Vegas that has a dedicated lap pool or lap swimming area (olympic size or better). We strictly want to swim! We’ll be there in September so would like the water to not b too cold. Any suggestions? Thanks!
The best place to try for this is Ballys. They have an olympic size pool. When I asked them about swimming laps, they said that on certain days they have dedicated lap swimming in the mornings… I would call the hotel and make sure they will have this available during the dates you’ll be in town. As far as September goes, you should be okay weather/temperature wise. Have fun!
I Love this site! Finally something with all of the information you need on Vegas. I’m coming to Vegas on August 21st, for a week. How busy is it during this time? I’l be staying at the Aladdin, and wanted to know where the best clubs are for people in their early twenties, as well. Thanks!
Thanks!
The summer is typically considered Las Vegas’ slowest season, mostly due to the heat and lower convention volume… Still, the streets and casinos will be busy at night.
As far as clubs go, here’s a must-see list: rumjungle (Mandalay Bay), Ra (Luxor), Studio 54 (MGM Grand), Babys (Hard Rock), Light (Bellagio), Rain (Palms), and Drai’s (Barbaray Coast). There are some newer clubs, like Coyote Ugly at NYNY as well.
My wife and I are on our way to Las Vegas next week. We’d like to know how long it takes to get from the airport to the Bellagio? We’re looking into getting a limo for our transfer and were just wondering if it’s a good idea.
A limo is a great way to start your trip off in style! The total trip from the airport depends on the time of day, since traffic on Las Vegas Blvd. can be heavy… It can range from 10 minutes to 30 minutes… It is not a long distance… By taking the Strip route, you will get the opportunity to see all the resorts enroute to Bellagio. Have a great trip!
I am coming to Las Vegas August 9 and 10th. I would like to leave a deposit with the cage of about $5,000.00 and draw markers against that. Can you tell me what you require (either person check 14 days in advance or a copy of a Cashier’s Check. I normally play Black-Jack, Roulette and my wife plays the slot machines. Thank You
Each casino can be a little different in this arena… For most, a cashier’s check will be much faster. Also, make sure to handle it a few days in advance and that the bank will be open (i.e. don’t try this on Sunday). Your best bet is to call the casino where you’ll be staying and ask for the cage or casino credit. Explain you want to leave some money on deposit. They will guide you through the procedure.
How much does the Bally’s hotel cost and from what to what day does the price change?
The cost of all hotel rooms in Vegas can change as often as hourly… Your best bet is to enter your dates on a Web site such as this (Click the link on the right) and check to see how much your dates would be…
Maybe I didn’t read far enough, but what is the $20 trick. My 3 sisters and I are headed out in Sept. and staying at the venetian and would love to upgrade.
This is my most common question… The new site will have a FAQ that includes this… Check out this page for more info: http://www.ratevegas.com/q-a.php3?page=14&state=read.
planning afamily trip in dec. Which hotels have indoor pools?
None really… The Trop has a part of their pool that can be sort of brought indoors by moving temporary partitions…
We are coming from the UK to stay at the Flamingo this July, what tips can you give me to negotiate the best room possible without an upgrade charge when we check in ?
I would read up here on the $20 trick. That’s really the best route to take if you want a nicer room without an upgrade charge. Depending on room availability, you could get lucky!
My wife and I are staying at Harrah’s for our anniversary, and are planning to try the $20 trick. What kind of upgrade should we be shooting for? Is there a part of the hotel that has a better view?
I would try for a room in the Carnival Tower facing the Mirage. Good luck!
